Relationships and self -esteem
This represents an interpersonal limit setting strategy. The goal of the skill is not to improve the relationship. Self-esteem is enhanced by one’s own consistent actions. Staying too long in the situation may affect the effectiveness of the strategy, and for this reason you have to act quickly. If you bow to the demands of others, unpleasant emotions of anger, guilt, fear and shame will result. In order to deal with these difficult situations that may persist for even longer, you might need to enlist the help of others. Self-esteem can be enhanced by the fact that this assistance is sought and accepted.
